It's short for Pop Directional Formatting. HTML, PDF end the effects of the last explicit code (embedding or override) and restores the bidirectional State it was before the last incorporation from left to right (LRE), right-to-left embedding (RLE), substitution from right to left (RLO) or control alternate from left to right characters (LRO).
