Muscatine
Muscatine is a city in Muscatine County, Iowa, United States. Founded by representatives of Colonel George Davenport in 1833, the European-American city of Muscatine began as a trading post. It was incorporated as Bloomington in 1839 but changed its name to Muscatine changed due to confusions as there were several Bloomingtons in the Midwest.
Muscatine has a population of 22,886 based on the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muscatine County. The city has a land area of 17.3 sq. miles and an additional water area of 1.05 sq. miles.
Muscatine was thrusted into the spotlight in February 2012 due to a reunion visit by China's vice president Xi Jinping. Xi, the likely future leader of the world's most populous country met a group of Iowa farmers and business leaders during a diplomatic exchange to this Mississippi River town twenty-seven years.
